My Piercy Roots

Arms of Percy ancient (click to learn more)

My last name comes from the House of Percy, we are an English noble family. With roots to France, and back even further. My ancestors were one of the most powerful noble families in Northern England and for much of the Middle Ages, known for their long rivalry with another powerful northern English family, the House of Neville, which I am also descendant of.

Below you will see my direct roots and learn a little bit more about my ancestors and how my line came to America.

My Family Tree

My Piercy/Pearcy/Percy roots below via my Paternal lineage, as well as my Maternal.

I have new recent finding making a straight shot via William Percy to Manifred de Perci. These findings were found via a site called genealogy.com. Whoever the owner happens to be (a distant cousin), thank you for helping me put all the pieces together! Below are the screenshots.

Now granted, yes, so many Percy’s, and I’m actually a Percy from my mother’s line as well and here is my Maternal side.

On my father’s side when it hits John Percy it becomes a jumbled mess. So many people I found have added father’s having kids at 7 and 8 years old. I do not even think this is possible, not child baring or making years. I made a new post explaining and all the places I found mix ups. Click HERE.

My mtDNA and Autosomal DNA test results

Now for my favorite part of this, my ancestors for some reason decided to change our last name de Perci, to de Percy to Pearcy to Piercy. I actually have an immediate uncle with the spelling Pearcy, and I ended up with Piercy.

Arms of my Percy Ancestor Henry de Percy

The Piercy/Percy name is a Military name meaning to pierce hedges in battle, known for being fast, bold and swift, and carrying high nobility, and honor, never backing down but always moving forward no matter the cost. And that cost right there, well it sometimes got them killed!

My Paternal and Maternal ancestor Harry Hotspur Percy (click for Full Wikipedia)

Born of a Neville and a Percy, Sir Henry Percy KG (20 May 1364 – 21 July 1403), nicknamed Hotspur, was an English knight who fought in several campaigns against the Scots in the northern border and against the French during the Hundred Years’ War. The nickname “Hotspur” was given to him by the Scots as a tribute to his speed in advance and readiness to attack. The heir to a leading noble family in northern England, Hotspur was one of the earliest and prime movers behind the deposition of King Richard II in favour of Henry Bolingbroke in 1399. He later fell out with the new regime and rebelled, and was slain at the Battle of Shrewsbury in 1403 at the height of his fame. (Via Wikipedia)

Another subject with my family to tell about which I find rather exciting, is our family castle 🏰. Castle Alnwick in Norththumberland, England 🇬🇧. It’s the castle that was used in the Harry Potter franchise as Hogwarts!!! Yes, that is right! We even have a castle vampire legend too!! How cool is that!!!

Granted, my line hasn’t lived there since coming to America, though my extended family still keeps it up and running!!! They live in one part and the other part you can visit and tour! (Click to schedule your tour today)

I hope this article covers a lot on my Piercy line and helps educate others that finding where you come from and who you come from is possible! Don’t ever stop moving forward!!!

And one more fun fact before I am off this page. Thomas Percy and the famous gunpowder plot with involvement around my 12th great aunt Queen Mary of Scots! He lost his head due to it, click on the highlighted area for his Wikipedia and if you want more fun family tales please let me know!

Other Percy’s in descendant of are below.

Best Regards,

Dawn Piercy, PhD
